Manuel Cervera-Marzal

A short history of social protest

This book was born from an observation: it is no longer possible to campaign as we did twenty years ago. Or even five years ago. What seemed unthinkable only yesterday suddenly becomes reality. Things get out of hand and the social actors, caught up in the whirlwind of events, are not always able to understand what is happening to them. Cervera-Marzal attempts, through this short history of protest and activism, to understand where our political action comes from and especially which paths are still open to it.

Manuel Cervera-Marzal is a sociologist at the University of Liège. He researches contemporary protests.
